Bart Abstein
John Barton Abstein Jr. passed away on February 6, 2018. Mr. Abstein was born in Tallahassee, FL on December 6, 1941 to Barton and Lillie Mae Abstein.
Bart attended Leon High School and lettered in football. He was a graduate of Florida State University, member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and served in the National Guard. He met his first wife, Lynne Watson Abstein at FSU and they were the parents of three children, Bart III, Katie and Jack. He remarried to Ria Bruns in 1982 and they formed The Abstein Company, a real estate development firm in Jacksonville.
Mr. Abstein was a prominent real estate executive, involved in the development, construction, finance and management of numerous commercial and residential developments across the Southeast. During his career, he was involved in many signature developments such as Crested Butte Ski resort, The Waterford in Jacksonville Beach, Promenade and Concourse in Atlanta, and the SunTrust Center in Tampa. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, skiing, FSU football and had a love-hate relationship with golf later on in life.
Mr. Abstein was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Katie. He is survived by his sons Bart Abstein, III (Megan) and Jack Abstein (Tina); his three grandsons, Barton, Cooper and Parker; his sisters Lillian Abstein Reese (Andy) and Nancy Abstein Buzzett (Rex); former wife Ria Bruns; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Arrangements entrusted to Hardage Giddens Oaklawn Chapel 4801 San Jose Blvd. Jax. Fl. 32207 where a Celebration of Bart's life will be held at noon, February 15, 2018.
