Caroline Stiles Johnston   

Caroline Stiles Johnston, 60, an administrative assistant for the Harvard Law School International Tax Program and supervised public relations, grants and communications, died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2002. She is survived by two sons, Timothy Gregory Johnston and Christopher Patrick Johnston, both of Tallahassee.

Mrs. Johnston was born in Tallahassee and graduated from Leon High School and Queen's College in Charlotte, N.C., where she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. After her college graduation, she was the administrative assistant for the Harvard Law School International Tax Program and supervised public relations, grants and communications. She was the chairman of the grantsmanship committee of the Junior League of Santa Barbara, Calif., and was the director of the Girl Scout's Club of Carpinteria, Calif. She handled public relations for banks in Boston and in Tallahassee. After returning to Florida, she was a grant/foundation consultant for the FSU Center for Professional Development and was the communications director for the local Girl Scout Council. She was also the executive director of the local Big Brothers and Big Sisters organization of Greater Tallahassee where she was instrumental in furthering its outreach for young people. She also served on the Advisory Board of Florida High School at FSU.

She was active in the Community Action Network and led many fundraising activities for local organizations such as the American Lung Association and other health awareness programs. She received the Award of Distinction for her work with the Northwest Regional Florida Public Relations Association. She was a member of the Tallahassee Junior League, the Tallahassee Cotillion Club and the Tallahassee Society of Association Executives. She devoted her life to her family and friends and dedicated much of her time to issues involving young people.

Other survivors include a brother, James Allen Stiles III of Tallahassee; and a sister, Gail Chittenden of Tallahassee.
