Rev. Leslie Dean Cassels
The Rev. Leslie Dean Cassels, 68, of Starke passed away suddenly Monday, March 2, 2009, after an apparent heart attack. He was born in Plant City and had lived in Bradford County for the last 40 years. He graduated from Florida State University, and got his master's at Nova University. He was band director at Columbia County, Bradford County and Union County schools and retired at Flagler Palm Coast High School. He was ordained as minister in 1979. He was pastor of Hilbourne Springs Baptist Church for 22 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Starke. He was preceded in death by his father, Carl Cassels. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years; Betty Conerly Cassels.; his daughter, Selina Armstrong (Rob) of Jacksonville; his son, Dale Cassels (Renee) of Starke; his mother, Jewell M. Cassels of Tallahassee; one brother, Leon Cassels (Joan) of Tallahassee; four grandchildren, Brandon Scheetz, Dylan Cassels, Shianne Cassels and Brayden Cassels Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. EST Friday in the First Baptist Church of Starke, with Rev. Rodney Coe and Rev. Robert Dennison officiating. Burial will follow in Conner Cemetery under the care of Archer Funeral Home of Lake Butler (386-496- 2008). Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at First Baptist Church.
