POST-50TH REUNION PAGE

The plan is that this page will will continue on ... to 55th? I'm starting it off with some emails I've received from classmates since the reunion, including the discussions on Mutt & Jeff's Hot Dog Slaw.

The Pre-50th page will have everything that we had before the reunion (since I like to save everything).
WHAT'S NEXT?

LOL ... nothing!  That's all I did here ... from here, things progressed to the 55th Plans page.
This email is the start of a discussion on Hot Dog Slaw from Mutt & Jeff's. I put the recipe itself on the Memorabilia Page.on

After yrs of experimenting to get the slaw sauce right...here is what I came up with....at the 25th reunion of '59 DeWitt [he's either Mutt or Jeff] told me that all of the ingredients are there...but never would give me the recipe.

[ See Memorabilia Page for recipe]

.
.
.

You only need to marinate it about 10 minutes...the sauce should be a bit juicy but not overly watered down.

Serve over hot fried hotdogs...this is my husband' s former office's most requested dish for group parties...

Enjoy and drink  with a Vanilla or Cherry coke  :)

Thanks.  Been waiting for that recipe a long time.  AND until I thank you formally, I appreciate all you did to make the Reunion a great success.

Your're alright, for a Liberal.

Hey Bob,
Thanks for the slaw dog recipe.  Doubt I'll try it, as it would never be as I remembered it.
I've already started a file for the 55th reunion.
And, I think next time we need to recognize the veterans in the class of 1959.  I know there are some and we should have a list.  Just a suggestion.
The 50th was the best ever - AWESOME!
Thanks for all you do and have done for our class.

Just to let you know Billy remembers very well seeing the big jugs of bar-b-que sauce that  he used and it was NIFDA brand.  I know you use to be able to get this but not sure NIFDA is still a supplier ot resturants.

If anyone finds please share with us all.

Patsy Warmack

PS: What a wonderful time we all had at the reunion.  We could not have wished for a happier time with everyone there.  It is truly as Palmer said, we were not just "a class of "59" but a class of friends who are still just as caring as ever.  Keeping in touch over the next years will be to all our benefit and Bob we thank you for being our link with each other.  Love and best wishes to everyone.

Bob, she didn't have to experiment.  I spoke to Prichard (Mutt) and here is what he told me.  This can be found on the class of '58 web site on the Parking Lot page:

Arthur "Mutt"  Pichard,  or "Peanut" to some and co-owner of Mutt & Jeff's drive-in recently passed away on December 2007 at the ripe old age of 91.  More information can be found at:

http://tallahassee.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080101/NEWS01/801010322/1010/news01

Ned and Sonny ran into Mutt "Arthur" on June 30th, 2007 at the Krispy Kreme Doughnut shop on Magnolia Drive.  Arthur told us that he is 91 years old.  He said, "I eat three donuts and a cup of hot coffee every day at the Krispy Kreme.  We asked him about the SECRET barbecue sauce that they put on their slaw dawgs.  He said, "Oh! it was nothing special.  The sauce was made by Blue Plate, the same company that made mayonnaise."  Arthur also said that their sauce was a mustard-based sauce and had to be special ordered.  Blue Plate did not offer it East of the Mississippi.  He told us that they contracted with a grocery store in Thomasville, Georgia, to stock their special sauce.  They were afraid that folks in Tallahassee would find out about it and steal their secret.  Anyway, we invited Arthur to attend our 50th reunion.  He said he would if he was still alive.  Arthur said his High School Class doesn't have reunions anymore because there aren't enough members to attend.  We are so sad to hear about his death.  He will be missed by all.

Thanks for the recipe. Years ago I spoke with Dewit about their slaw dogs that we all used to enjoy at Mutt & Jeff's.  He told me that they used Blue Plate BBQ sauce in their original recipe.  I haven't seen any Blue Plate products for years so I bet Dana's idea of a "not so sweet" sauce will work.  I plan to try it out soon.

You have done a great job with the web page and I thank you.
Take care.

Judy,

Great! We actually got mentioned as contributors to the new arch! Scroll down to Judy's email to get the link to the newspaper article.

I'm sending this BCC to the "new, updated" distribution list. The good news is that I've added 7 more to the list, from the 50th reunion directory. What confuses me is the number of people that I saw at the reunion that still haven't provided us with an email address. Are there really that many without email? Hard for me to believe, but I'm a geek so ...

If you see anyone in the directory that has an email address not listed there, please send it on to me.

I'm also adding this email to our collection on the Post-50th page. Note that those go from oldest to newest, so you have to scroll to the bottom of the page to see the latest.

Bob

Update: Archway addition to Leon High School paid with private donations

By Jay Christie • Democrat Writer • June 9, 2009

Tallahassee’s Leon High School is set to get a bit of a face-lift before the students return for the fall. The school is adding a landmark this summer in the form of a 21-foot archway that will span the driveway in front of the main building. Principal Rocky Hanna said he is proud of the construction, but said it has been in the works for quite a while.

“There has always been a design for at least the past four years,” said Hanna, 44, who is also a third generation Leon High graduate. “We’ve been really excited about it. It’s not something we thought of overnight. It has been a long time coming.”

The structure will be reminiscent of the arch in front of Florida State University’s Westcott building, and was designed to complement the color scheme of the school. “The black pillars of the arch will match the pillars of the school and the tile will match the tile on top of the school,” Hanna said. “The whole things spans 34 feet.” Construction is scheduled to begin this summer and Hanna said the arch should be completed sometime in August. Former Leon High Principal Jim Nettles, who retired in 2001, initiated the fencing project around the school. Hanna has since taken over and has turned to several Leon alumni for help. Among them is Charles Redding, 56, the senior vice president of PBS&J, an engineering firm that designed the arch. “The Leon Foundation received many donations in memory of our son, Robby, and we thought it only appropriate to have these funds designated toward the arch,” he said. “He was a graduate, as were our two other children, my wife, Leslie, myself and most of our families.” Redding said he expects to break ground in two weeks. He said some of the work is being done by local construction firms and that some of the construction costs have been covered by other private donations. Hanna said the class of 1959 also donated several thousand dollars. Hanna said any money for the arch is coming from private donations.
