Class of 1959
This is a countdown to the 50th Reunion planned May 15-16, 2009. Below, you'll (eventually) find a summary of each year from 1955-1959. I started on an earlier page with 1955, continued with 1956, now starting 1957, and will be adding info for each month of each year until we reach the June 5, 2009 anniversary of our graduation. At the bottom of the page, I've included links to websites where you'll find gobs of more info on whatever year you're interested in that I discovered while researching these countdown pages.

1957 - The Year of the Fin

The major thing that I remember about 1957 is that it was the year that automobile fins got really big, then they essentially disappeared in 1958. I've searched the internet from one end to the other and  can't find a new car catalog. Best I found was the Motor Trend magazine shown below.
I was about to give up, when VOILA! Wikipedia comes through again!
CLICK HERE to see all 44 of the Wikipedia photos. I've put some of my favorites below.
CLICK ANY PHOTO (except the magazine) FOR A LARGER VIEW!
Dodge - with Big Fins
Chevy - more Fins
Even Wagons had Fins
Ford, small fins, but bigger than 1956
Thunderbird in Pink
Plymouth - really big Fins
Buick - a little more subtle
Cadillac
Chrysler 300C - IMHO, the best of the 300s
Mercury, square fins
Oldsmobile - gone  now
Studebaker - Hot in 1957
